With the outbreak of COVID-19, the use of internet data for health monitoring has become increasingly popular. This project explores how Google Trends search data can be used to monitor human and animal shared diseases in New Zealand, such as Salmonella and Leptospirosis.

These diseases are difficult to control due to their wide host range, involvement of wildlife, and environmental factors (such as climate change). By analyzing Google Trends data, we can provide potential early warning signals for these diseases, helping to take timely countermeasures.

This project will integrate Google Trends data, human and animal case data provided by the New Zealand Environmental Science Research Institute (ESR) and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), and train machine learning models to predict future case trends.

This approach aims to help better understand disease dynamics and provide timely early warning signals before disease outbreaks.

Zoonotic diseases refer to diseases that can infect both humans and animals. These diseases are usually caused by pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi, and can be transmitted through direct contact, food, water, and air.

Zoonotic diseases have significant impacts on public health and livestock, not only threatening human health but also potentially causing economic losses and affecting food safety and international trade. Therefore, timely detection and control of these diseases are crucial for ensuring public health and ecological balance.

The goal of this project is to establish an efficient health monitoring system by integrating multiple data sources to help detect the risks of human and animal shared diseases in the early stages and effectively address these public health challenges.
