Use of Google Trends for One Health surveillance

Team Introduction

Welcome to our team introduction page. We are an interdisciplinary team dedicated to using Internet data to monitor zoonotic diseases in New Zealand for public health and agricultural production. Following the COVID-19 outbreak, the use of Internet data in health surveillance has gained prominence. New Zealand's robust animal husbandry industry, raising cattle, sheep, and horses, makes zoonotic disease prevention critical. Our project explores how Google Trends data can be utilized to monitor diseases like salmonellosis, leptospirosis, brucellosis, cryptosporidiosis, and Q fever.

Our team consists of the following members:

The project is guided by Professor Bo (Christine) Liu, with support from Masako at Shouyi College, providing valuable data and technical assistance.

We aim to integrate Google Trends data, case data from ESR and MPI, and census data from Stats NZ to train machine learning models for predicting case trends. Our goal is to develop a cross-platform website that visualizes the relationship between Google Trends and case reports.

Our unique approach combines Google Trends data with actual case data, leveraging machine learning for more accurate predictions. This allows for timely warnings and control measures to mitigate disease transmission risks, contributing to the monitoring of zoonotic diseases in New Zealand.

Thank you for your trust and support. We look forward to embarking on this innovative journey with you. For more information, please feel free to contact us.
